During this project I decided to focus on Zimbabwe, the first and second Chimurenga. This resistance movement was also known as the second rebellion by the white settlers of Rhodesia. The first Chimurenga was failed but the second was seen as a success. The native Zimbabweans were at a disadvantage when it came down to resources and power. They were fighting for their rights back and in the end both sides came to an agreement as they say the fighting not going anywhere productive. Though this is true its not entirely where the violence and oppression stopped.
Project reflection: When looking over all my work for the project I can say I am most proud of my artwork. Being able to incorporate artwork into a project is usually pretty fun for me as I love doing art and getting challenged with something I don't usually draw is fun. I feel like my piece turned out pretty well considering it was pretty far out of my comfort zone from my usual art. I spent a long time on it and was able to refine it after some feedback from peers. I was really proud of the symbolism I was able to come up with and execute. Overall this is why I was so happy with the art portion of my project. I ran into a couple of difficulties in this project as a whole. I fell behind in the very beginning and was struggling with research and reading. I usually struggle with reading, in such a way I can read all of the words given but not process the information. This made it especially difficult for me to do my research. I made my way around this problem by communicating with my teacher. I was able to get an extension and some help with sources. This was extremely helpful for the difficulties I was having. I would say I need to change my mindset on procrastination and get help with the reading. Sometimes I find it more useful to have an audio book/reading while I read along in order to comprehend information, so having someone read aloud or having an audio book might help. I would say as far as content that I studied goes I feel like the most important thing I learned was about the oppression of the native Zimbabweans by the white Rhodesian settlers. It’s something a big part of our history as a species and is important to learn about, and learn from. I don’t think I could narrow it down to one specific part of the oppression of the Zimbabweans as the subject as a whole is very important to learn about as you get a picture of the full story. You can see the overall story as a very rough overview through my art piece interpretation. When it comes down to the most important thing I learned about myself as a student it would be learning not to procrastinate on projects and get help sooner rather than later. This isn’t entirely shown through my final product but more the process. Some sections had to be cut short as I would be struggling with something like the reading. This still worked out as I pushed myself to write more then needed for each source as I later learned wasn’t entirely necessary at the beginning of the project. I would say I've gotten better at working with citations. Before this project I didn’t have any idea about things like MLA citations and how to use them when it came down to different types of sources. The following being an example of a citation from s website that I read my information on. “Welford, John. “The second Chimurenga: Zimbabwe’s successful war of independence.” Historical Triumphs and Disasters, 27 April 2018, http://historicaltriumphsanddisasters.blogspot.com/2018/04/the-second-chimurenga-zimbabwes.html Accessed Oct. 5.” My second example being a citation from a video source. “Mhandu, Cairo. “Second Chimurenga: causes.” Youtube 15 March 2018, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuXi6jRPaHU Accessed oct. 6. “ Based off of the rubric I would give myself an 8. This is mainly due to the fact that I get easily distracted when working from home. Though we have a schedule it can be very easy to find yourself off topic with at home distractions. For me this includes days having to watch my niece and even just having the chance to say “I have the rest of the day ill be fine taking a small break.” but losing track of time easily. Its difficult to pinpoint one specific example of this as this usually went along with general health issues and were often both reasons I fell behind on classes. One thing I can try and improve on is setting out an exact schedule for my day with about an hour gap at the end just to give myself some extra work time. I want to try and experiment with different things like, my surroundings, things I listen to, and how I get ready for the day and see how I can improve my work ethic.
