This project was primarily to help us work with values. India Ink is a strong black water color like paint that you can dilute with water to get your range in values. I started off finding a black and white image I found interesting and thought I could have a lot of fun painting. Starting off with a sketch (this part took the longest) making sure to get all the details of the trees and marking out the depth in the picture. I then lightly went over all the pencil marks with a kneadable eraser to make the graphite less likely to spread and be visible when painting on the India ink. Finally taking a few thin brushes and one medium sized brush and started working through the layers of my painting with my different created values, while also adding my own creative flare to it since I love dragons. Constraints: -Paper -Paintbrushes -India Ink -Water
Lyrical Painting Washes
This project consisted of choosing a song we really liked or thought would be fun to paint its lyrics into an acrylic wash. I chose Freaks by:surf curse as I felt it would be a good vent painting. Starting off choosing my colors (grey scale) and layering them onto the canvas with high amounts of water or using a spray bottle to saturate it after application to create a wash-y look, waited for it to dry and did more layers until I was happy with the look. Once this was done I decided to add a wolfs face near the center of my canvas with a faint moon in the background created with watered down white paint and bubble wrap texture. Finally adding some small lyrics from my chosen song into the background with other light layers over the words. Constraints: -Canvas -Paintbrushes -Acrylic paint -Bubble wrap -Spray bottles
Acrylic transfer
During this project i started with doing black and grey acrylic washes on the canvas. After adding some slight color I added amethyst crystals to fill in empty space in the corners of the canvas. Playing with some blending of black and white on one brush I added circles and lines with the gradient from black to white and finally added my acrylic transfer to the middle of the canvas. My image was made slightly muddy so if I were to do this project again I would have made a slight white acrylic wash over the place I was going to out my acrylic transfer on. Constraints: -Canvas -Paintbrushes -Acrylic medium -Acrylic paint -Xerox prints
